August was full of more birthdays, mini getaways, and football games. Here’s a peek at our month and the life I’ve thankful for.
Happy June ya’all!
This month was full of celebrations between Father’s Day and birthdays, backyard adventures, and bringing home our new Winnie girl.
Here’s a look at our month; hope you enjoy!
John and I have been tossing around the idea for a while of adding another golden retriever to our family. As our girl Maci Bo gets older, we wanted her to have another dog around to keep her young. And yes, we have Mazi, but let’s be honest we don’t call her “Big Mama” for nothing. She plays with Maci, but she can often show her cranky-old lady personality and isn’t always a big ball of energy.
We did some research and came across a farm in Wisconsin that had some puppies that were available to go to a new home. Saturday, June 19th, we woke up and VERY spontaneously decided to make the drive and “look” at the puppies. Look is the keyword, but let’s be real, we were coming home with our Winnie Jo.
Winnie was the third puppy introduced to us and it was one of those things that when we met her we just knew. All the other puppies when we would walk away would wander off, but Winnie wouldn’t leave John’s side. Ultimately, John had told me to make the final decision, but as soon as I saw how much she just wanted to be around us, the decision was easy.
So, that started our story with miss Winnie. It was a cuddly ride home; the whole time she sat on my lap and was just begging for love from John and I. She enjoyed staring out the window and took many breaks in between for a quick nap curled up on my lap.
I swear it was like bringing a new baby home and introducing her to the family. She’s the cutest ball of fluff right now and the kids are all obsessing over her. We’re excited to watch her grow, but hopefully not too fast…we are loving this puppy stage.
Enjoy these photos of our first few days together as a family. We sure love you, Winnie Jo…even your terrible, stinky puppy breath.
32 years old today, and there has been quite a few things that I’ve learned through the years. I’ve made good choices, stupid choices, and learned that sometimes the only explanation for your actions is, “it seemed like a good idea at the time.” But through it all, I’ve learned.
And firsthand, from my own experience these are some of things that I’ve learned:
Seafood is still disgusting.
Your children pay attention to EVERYTHING that you do. Literally EVERYTHING. Don’t say anything in front of a 3-year old you don’t want repeated.
Soul mates do exist; believe me. I’m one of the lucky ones that found mine.
Having a big family is such a blessing. A benefit too; more kids to pay for a fancier nursing home when you’re older.
Life is much better with a golden retriever.
Work at a place where you actually like your boss and co-workers. Life is way too short to deal with Karens.
No matter how old you get, shots still suck.
Record your life. Have those memories to look back and smile at later.
Friends change and that’s okay. Sometimes the unlikely friends are the best friends.
Grey hairs come a whole lot sooner than you expect.
“One more episode” actually means four more episodes.
Hanger, it’s real.
Kitchens are made for dancing.
I will never be as happy as my two dogs.
McDonald’s Coke taste better than any other coke.
The person who invented Grocery Pick-up is a genius and all we mothers appreciate you.
At this age, you can pull a muscle in your sleep.
Costco is a very glorious place.
Airfryers are the bee’s knees.
Have date nights weekly with your significant other; make that time for each other.
Don’t get drunk and order food on Doordash; you will probably end up with $70+ of Chipotle on your front doorstep. Oops.
Spend as much time as you can with your grandparents. That time is so valuable.
Even if it scares you, still do it. Try those new opportunities.
It is possible to wrongly cook macaroni & cheese…sorry kids.
Sometimes those college degrees aren’t worth it.
Chips and salsa are the best snack.
Dad jokes are actually funny.
Never turn down the opportunity to take a good nap.
Caffeine is your friend.
You don’t need to buy every single houseplant you see.
Getting forehead kisses will never get old.
You can never say “I love you” too much.
i hope you all had a warm, wonderful christmas! our’s was lovely and spent at home.
i feel like with all the anticipation and excitement of christmas, it seems to take forever for the day to finally be here and then once it’s here, it’s gone in the blink of an eye.
this year was a little different for us because the kids spent christmas morning with their other parents, so we didn’t wake up to little giggles and kids jumping on our bed waking us up so they could open presents. it wasn’t full of chaos of wrapping paper flying everywhere and the house was a whole lot more quiet. but john and i enjoyed the morning together and we were okay knowing that the kids were probably having the best time at their other homes.
around 10am the kids came home, faces filled with smiles and telling us all about their mornings. they were happy to be home and even more happy after seeing more presents piled for them under the tree. we all changed into our matching family christmas pajamas and nestled around the tree.
the kids sure got spoiled with things that they wanted and were eager to start playing with it all.
but john and i had one more big surprise from them that we had been hiding from them for weeks.
if you know our girls, you know they have been begging for a bunny for YEARS. we surprised them with a new addition to the family that they’re absolutely head over heels with already.
welcome to the family, Miss. Bun Bun.
for the next hour or so the kids got to play with all their new toys and had us running around like crazy putting everything together. that time was my favorite; just knowing we were all together and just truly so happy.
mom, dad, and my sister came over early in the afternoon to do our round of christmas. again, the kids got spoiled rotten, even the pups!
after all gifts were open the rest of the family showed up for our last round of christmas. i love how large our immediate family is and there is something so special seeing the kids with their cousins.
after all the gifts were opened, we started dinner and had quite the variety! everything was so delicious and our bellies were all very happy.
after dinner, everyone started to wind down and head home. once again, the house was quiet. the kids all were occupied with their new gifts and john and i relaxed and reflected on how great the day was.
from our family to yours, we hope you had a very merry christmas a wishing you all a wonderful new year!
hey all! it’s been a while since i’ve done a post like this; i figured it was time to share some of our recent favorites that we’ve been loving lately. you guys seem to really enjoy these and i’m sharing quite the variety of items today!
first, lets talk technology! with quarantine affecting us all; i’ve found new hobbies to enjoy and recently have been dabbling in digital illustration. i downloaded the procreate app on my ipad and using my apple pencil i’ve been slowly adding more and more finished pieces to my completed collection.
i’m really enjoy creating new art for our home, including some of our family and one of my craft studio. if you’re looking to have one done, shoot me a message; i’m sure we can work something out!
speaking of family, we recently got new family photos done and knew after doing some re-decorating within our home, we wanted to create a gallery wall using some of our new photos.
let’s be honest, large canvases are typically not the cheapest, but i stumbled across an online canvas company and have nothing but amazing things to say about it.
if you’re interested in ordering canvas prints, i’d HIGHLY recommend checking out CanvasChamp.com they are super inexpensive, offer a wide variety of sizes, and sell other custom items. they are always running great promotions and offer many different codes to save. my favorite is when they run their buy 2, get one free deal. interested in saving more? let me know and I can share a link with you.
our gallery wall turned out better than i had expected and it’s my favorite thing to walk into our home and see these. seriously check out CanvasChamp.com, you won’t be disappointed!
alright lastly, let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart…our pups! recently Buddy Bandana reached out to me about helping share their mission and i was immediately on board.
for those who don’t know Buddy Bandana spreads awareness and raises money for rescue organizations across the country. every purchase they donate a portion to no kill shelters to support and save animals in need.
i don’t receive anything from the sale, but am all about supporting a great cause! use code “OkayToBeShay” at checkout to save 40% on all orders and free shipping!
maci girl and I thank you @officialbuddybandana for the matching bandana/scrunchie set!
i have been SO SO excited to write this blog post for you all! john and i have been doing a lot of redecorating within our home and during the process, we made one of our rooms into my dream craft space and studio!
i knew that i wanted to go with the color scheme of teal, white, and gray, with pops of pink so the first thing i did was use a whole lot of spray paint. it’s crazy how easy spray paint was to use and now i want to use it on everything!
the dogs even enjoyed the process with a whole lot of watching and making sure things were done right!
when we started the craft room i had a vision of exactly what i wanted the main desk to look like and john made it come to life! after a few trips to home depot, lots of paint, and patience the result was better than i could have asked for!
as you can see there is a whole lot of organization going on this room. ikea was definitely my friend during looking for new furniture and i scored a great washi shelf while scrolling through fb marketplace.
it took a few weeks to complete, but was SO worth it! i can’t wait for all the memories i’m going to make in here!
i’m sure you can expect a more thorough craft room tour from me soon!
if you’ve been around for a bit, you’re no stranger to the fact that i live for amazon prime. i mean, it’s my holy grail for basically everything and such a lifesaver. we even buy a lot of our household items through amazon – no joke, we just got an order of dog food in – and it’s been our lifeline during this crazy pandemic.
my in-store shopping has decreased a lot during quarantine, obviously, but there’s no denying that money still flies out of my wallet just as my fast towards my amazon cart. i realize that it’s been a while since i’ve shared some of our favorite purchases from amazon, so i thought i’d share away.
dog owners who have those pesky dogs that always bark? you NEED this!
not joking. my only regret is not buying this sooner. we have lots of windows in our house and the dogs take full advantage of that and bark at everything. its annoying and i think they like to challenge each other on who can bark the loudest. squirrels, mail men, their own shadow? you name it…they bark.
this bark collar has changed that completely. my favorite part about it is that it has three training modes – beep, vibration, etc. – and we’ve only had to use the beep option. they know immediately once they hear that beep what it means and to stop. it’s even waterproof!
this air mattress -yes adulting at its finest. an air mattress.
this has been one of our most used purchases lately. we have people over quite often and can always use the extra sleeping space. this has come in handy so much! the quality is great and we love that it has a built-in air compressor that works so fast.
it was inevitable…we’re mid-westerners. we gave in and bought our own custom corn hole set. it’s exactly what we had in mind and the guy who built them for us did such a great job.
but we needed the actual bags for it. john found these on amazon and they are great!
we got a board set with one side that has the minnesota vikings logo and the other the chicago bears. we decided to purchase bags sets in both purple and bright orange to match them and are super happy with the quality. we’re looking forward to many, many summers using them.
let me know if you order something on my amazon favorites list…i’d love to know what you think. happy shopping!
June is here and it is FLYING by. The good weather has arrived along with more orders to stay working from home. It’s a whole new normal around here, but truthfully I’m loving be able to stay home and spend the extra time with our family.
We’ve tried spending as much time as possible outside, soaking up the sun and avoiding going stir-crazy. I’m so glad that if COVID had to happen, it’s not when it’s freezing outside and we’re forced to remain indoors.
John and I visited my parents at the campground and spent a few hours floating down the river on kayaks with dad. It was John’s first time out on a kayak and he managed not to fall out…winning. We’re already excited to go back out; we can already picture how much Mason would love to go too.
The time we’ve spent inside, we’ve made the best of it. Lots of crafts, family movies, and giggles. All the extra time together is certainly not something I’m complaining about.
Mason got his very own John Deere gator powerwheel and it was the perfect surprise. He LOVES it and is so proud to show off his “tractor”. The girls take turns with it too and they all enjoy having Mazi girl ride around in the back.
All three of our girls learned how to ride a bike without training wheels (thanks babe!) and are super proud. We got them new bikes and our driveway has been a bike track lately. People driving by probably thinking we’re running a day care over here.
John’s birthday is this month so we spent time with family celebrating over the weekend. It was nice to have everyone here together. We ordered pizzas, had some tacos, and lots of yummy dessert. The weather outside was really great too so we spent a lot of time visiting while the kids all got to play.
I just wanted to share a bit of what we’ve been up to this month; hope all of you had enjoyed June as much as we have! ‘Til next time!
this blog has always been a space for me to share the beauty of our family’s moments, whether if it’s from the view of the city streets or the comfort of my couch. a place for me to document all of life’s adventures, and this year has been quite the adventure thus far.
no words are needed for this post, but just photos of some of our every day moments around the house while in quarantine.
it may be a crazy time in the world right now, but i am so thankful for all this extra time we’ve been able to spend together, as a family.
