finding ME time in motherhood.

if you’re a mom, you know EXACTLY what i’m referring to. there is no denying that motherhood is the best job in the world, but it can be TOUGH. there is absolutely nothing like it; you will never feel so much love, guilt, stress, or anxiety from any job aside from that of a being a mother.

with all the hustle and bustle, and losing your mind a few times here and there, let’s talk about what this post is all about…you time! it’s absolutely a must, and as guilty as you may feel taking that time for yourself, it’s so important to do so. moms…you’ve got to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of anybody else.

so here, i thought i’d share a few ways that i enjoy sneaking off for some me time:

relax in a bubble bath

this is my go to. even if i have to wait until my girls are in bed, i look forward to it so much. a bath bomb, a good-smelling candle, and some music. give me twenty minutes and i get out feeling so calm and refueled.

journal

i really enjoy writing. it lets me get all my thoughts out of my head and on to paper. simply just a way for me to decompress and de-stress.

drive time

i have a pretty decent commute to and from work every day so i’ve learned to quite enjoy that time alone, especially when i can have the windows down and blast some of my favorite music.

errands

yes. i said it…errands. “going out” for me now is running errands. alone.

10 fun facts about me.

i’m stepping out of my comfort zone today. i wanted to do a fun, slightly more personal  post. this was actually a little bit harder to do than I thought it would be; who knew it would be difficult to list random things about yourself!  here’s what I came up with…

IMG_1510.JPG

i wanted to be an art teacher when i grew up.

growing up, i had no idea what i wanted to do when i was older. and then i started high school and signed up for my first art class. i loved everything about it, so much, that i knew that i wanted to teach it when i grew up.

i write poetry.

only when i’m sad; it feels better to get the things i’m thinking of out on paper. and i never let anyone read it.

my middle name is JoNette, after my great-grandmother’s name Nettie Jo.

i love that my name means so much to our family. my great-grandma was an incredible woman.

i love skiing in the mountains with my dad. they’re some of my favorite memories growing up.

we started going together when i was in middle school when he’d always be the first to join me on our school trips. it’s one of my favorite things that he has taught me to do.

i’m allergic to orange juice.

it’s probably a good thing that i don’t like the taste, but i sure do miss having it in some of my cocktails.

i’m always cold.

if i could always walk around with a heated blanket, i would.

i sleep walk. and sleep talk. all the time.

growing up, my mom had to put bells on the doors because i would always try to walk outside.

my biggest fears include fish and clowns.

both super creepy and i avoid getting near them at all costs.

i’m afraid of deep water that i cant see in because 1. fish and 2. when i was younger my swim teacher was missing one of her toes because she claimed an alligator ate it off  and swore and it would happen to me if i didn’t swim faster.

i legitimately despise that woman. and her missing toe.

i refuse to eat the last bite of any sandwich. weird? i know.

i think it has to do with my OCD, but i just cant bring myself to do it.

things that make me happy.

i’ve been in such a bad funk lately. it’s so easy to get overwhelmed and down about life, but it’s so important that you remind yourself of the things that keep you going.

i needed to take a step back and do some things that make me happy. i needed some positivity and i thought that i’d share with all of you my list.

happiness is what you choose it to be, and here are just a few of what i find joy in:

journaling

simply just getting things out my head an on to paper is such a relief sometimes.

july favorites.

july is always such a fun month for me.  lots of time in the pool, parties and byronfest, and my daughter’s birthday month.  she’s turning 10 this month and it blows my mind how fast time has gone.

i wanted to share with all of you a few of my favorites from this month; a few new, a few old:

hobonichi techo

i wanted to purchase a new notebook to use as an art journal.  after doing some research (yes, for a notebook…im dorky) and looking up reviews i ordered an a6 hobonichi techo weekly from jetpens.com.

i thought the same thing…what is a hobonichi? it’s a japanese daily planner with a very minimal design. the paper is super thin; which makes it not very bulky and easy to toss in my purse.  i really like the aspect of being able to customize it as well, with tons of different cover options.

jane.com

if you don’t know about jane.com yet, you should…talk about addicting. jane.com is an online market boutique that features daily deals in women’s fashion trends, home décor, and children’s clothing from different shops.

hop over there asap. you will not regret it, but your wallet might.

artist loft watercolors

i’ve been really enjoying using watercolors lately, especially within my new hobonichi that i’m using as an art journal.

when looking for a new watercolor set, i didn’t want to spend a lot of money simply because i wasn’t sure if id like using them. i settled for a cheap set and honestly, i don’t think i’ll need to ever try a different brand.

i purchased the artist loft’s brand from michael’s arts and crafts. best part, they’re only $8.99!

covergirl blast pro mascara

i came across this mascara on a complete accident and it has now become a favorite from this month.  we were running errands one day and i remembered that i was running low on my mascara at home.  i had to run into walgreens for a few other things and picked up this covergirl blast pro waterproof mascara.

i’ve been using it for a few weeks now and really like how full it makes my lashes look. the best part is the price: it typically ranges from $6 – $8!
