August was full of more birthdays, mini getaways, and football games. Here’s a peek at our month and the life I’ve thankful for.
Happy June ya’all!
This month was full of celebrations between Father’s Day and birthdays, backyard adventures, and bringing home our new Winnie girl.
Here’s a look at our month; hope you enjoy!
Can you believe that May is already over and summer is officially here?
This month was full of celebrations between Mother’s Day and birthdays and a whole lot of fun in between. We ended our month with a family vacation and man, we’re already looking forward to another one.
Hope you enjoy this little video of our month, #LeParteyof6 style!
32 years old today, and there has been quite a few things that I’ve learned through the years. I’ve made good choices, stupid choices, and learned that sometimes the only explanation for your actions is, “it seemed like a good idea at the time.” But through it all, I’ve learned.
And firsthand, from my own experience these are some of things that I’ve learned:
Seafood is still disgusting.
Your children pay attention to EVERYTHING that you do. Literally EVERYTHING. Don’t say anything in front of a 3-year old you don’t want repeated.
Soul mates do exist; believe me. I’m one of the lucky ones that found mine.
Having a big family is such a blessing. A benefit too; more kids to pay for a fancier nursing home when you’re older.
Life is much better with a golden retriever.
Work at a place where you actually like your boss and co-workers. Life is way too short to deal with Karens.
No matter how old you get, shots still suck.
Record your life. Have those memories to look back and smile at later.
Friends change and that’s okay. Sometimes the unlikely friends are the best friends.
Grey hairs come a whole lot sooner than you expect.
“One more episode” actually means four more episodes.
Hanger, it’s real.
Kitchens are made for dancing.
I will never be as happy as my two dogs.
McDonald’s Coke taste better than any other coke.
The person who invented Grocery Pick-up is a genius and all we mothers appreciate you.
At this age, you can pull a muscle in your sleep.
Costco is a very glorious place.
Airfryers are the bee’s knees.
Have date nights weekly with your significant other; make that time for each other.
Don’t get drunk and order food on Doordash; you will probably end up with $70+ of Chipotle on your front doorstep. Oops.
Spend as much time as you can with your grandparents. That time is so valuable.
Even if it scares you, still do it. Try those new opportunities.
It is possible to wrongly cook macaroni & cheese…sorry kids.
Sometimes those college degrees aren’t worth it.
Chips and salsa are the best snack.
Dad jokes are actually funny.
Never turn down the opportunity to take a good nap.
Caffeine is your friend.
You don’t need to buy every single houseplant you see.
Getting forehead kisses will never get old.
You can never say “I love you” too much.
to be honest, this post is long overdue. we completed our master bedroom reno project months ago, but were waiting on a few more furniture pieces to be truly complete. but let’s be honest, i love re-arranging and new decor, so i’m sure it will always be changing up.
the main reason we wanted to do a renovation was because of the color. the walls were a tan-ish color and the trim was in need of some serious love. we wanted to change the color to a light grey to brighten the room and accent it with white trim. it took MULTIPLE coats to get the trim a bright white, but once it was done we loved the contrast with the gray walls.
rather than buying a new stand for below our tv, i diy’ed our old entertainment stand from the living room. with a bit of sanding and a bright white color painted on, the result was exactly was what i was hoping for. i love that we decided to keep the old color on the top; it gives it more of a “rustic feel” and makes the white stand out.
we both love the color purple so we knew from the very begining that we wanted to accent with purple. we bought some new curtains for the sliding door to our balcony and a purple comforter to match.
the decor in our room is absolutely my favorite. we added a lot of white floating shelves, customized prints we ordered online, and some art that i painted.
lastly, we needed a new bed. we searched for a few weeks but came across this one on wayfair and love how it matches everything. i’ll be working on some sketches soon to frame and add above the bed.
this was the last photo that i have of our “new” room; since then we’ve added a few plants. our plan this spring/summer is to re-paint the deck outside our balcony and add some outdoor furniture.
happy friday! the weekend is finally here, spring is right around the corner, and the sun is shining! i thought i’d start the weekend off right by sharing my recent favorite purchases from amazon with all of you. who doesn’t love a good haul?!
we needed a new kitchen mat for near our sink and found these on amazon. such a great price for a pack of 2! we used the other one in front of our stove and the length is perfect. my favorite is the vibrant color that goes so well with our kitchen color scheme.
this gel nail light. i’ve enjoyed doing my nails lately, and with three little girls this thing comes in handy. it’s under $12 right now and is amazing. my nails are completely dry within a few minutes and lasts for easily 2 weeks. if you’re looking for a great gel nail light, this is it!
what are your amazon favorites lately?
we are somehow a whole month into the new year. a lot has changed and a lot hasn’t, but i still have more hope for 2021 than I did for 2020.
with few words, here’s our month in photos.
we got a new bed! we’ve been keeping an eye out for a bed we both liked and for a good deal. wayfair had some great deals after the new year and we both really liked this one. now to work on some artwork ideas we had for above the bed.
john and i went on a small getaway to madison. we explored the city a bit and went iceskating on the lake. for not being regular iceskaters, neither of us fell and i was pretty impressed. the views were beautiful at the edgewater and a place i can see us visiting every year.
my momma turned the big 5-0 this month and kayla, dad, and i surprised her with a birthday card “shower.” if you haven’t heard what that is, you can read a little bit more about it here. she was so surprised! i’m glad that we found a way to still make her feel special since covid didn’t make it an ideal time to throw her a big party.
i’ve always wanted to go into trader joe’s and explore all that they have, but unfortunately the closest one to us is over an hour drive. one day we just decided to make a quick day trip out of it and went prepared with a list of items we wanted to try. i may have found a new found love; i just wish there was one closer! interested in seeing what we picked up? i’m debating on doing a “haul” soon, so keep an eye out for that.
the last few photos are just some of my favorites from the month; capturing our everyday moments around the house as a family of 6.
cheers to another great month!
costco. heard of it?
it should come as no surprise to those who know me, know that i love costco. no. more like i’m obsessed with it. i think it may be part of the mom handbook; once you step in you’re sold.
we stopped in spontaneously to visit the new local warehouse one day and jumped on the bandwagon after walking just a few of their aisles. we’ve been a member for over a year now and over that year have accumulated some favorites.
so what should you buy at costco? check out some of our favorites below:
these were one of the very first things that we were told about when we started shopping at costco. actually the employee who sold us our membership told us that we should pick up some of these before leaving the store.
thanks miss costco employee for the recommendation because these are amazing! we typically make a trip to costco every other week and usually purchase these every time. they’re so convenient to make and the kids really enjoy them too.
if you haven’t checked out the aisle of pre-made meals at costco, i’d highly recommend it. we’ve tried a few things from there and haven’t been disappointed yet. their chicken fettucine alfredo is another one of our favorites!
this is the definition of a bargain booze. the costco brand’s kirkland vodka has earned it’s own fan club and we’re part of that. it’s just as tasty as grey goose and some even claim that it’s possible it’s the same since they’re both made in the same distillery, but at a bargain at just half the price.
we’re a sucker for big fluffy blankets in this house and this one did not disappoint. in fact, we even went back and bought multiple. want a giant, comfy blanket for under $25? this is it.
mini frozen tacos
don’t judge me here, but okay, i’m a huge fan of quick and easy lunches and these are one of my go-tos. my favorite part? they’re perfectly cooked and crispy after being tossed in the air fryer for just a few minutes. also, you know you bought something good when every time you purchase it and go through the checkout line the cashiers always rave about them.
french onion soup
another quick and easy lunch? these. i’m a sucker for soup and french onion soup is easily one of my favorites, but such a pain to make. i read a few reviews about how delicious these were and i’d have to agree. i pop them in the microwave for just a few minutes and often add an extra slice of swiss on top.
who doesn’t love a good tortilla chip? these are a staple in our house! the bag is giant and all for under $4. big families that fly through chips, these are definitely a must for you!
these were one of those random purchases after strolling through the aisles one day. probably the most random thing that we’ve purchased at costco, but they’re now one of my favorite home decor items. we have a set around our fireplace and then got more later for our bedroom.
the lights flicker like a real candle and one of my favorite purchases is that you can set them on a timer to turn on and off at the same time every day.
ramen noodles with chicken
i love a good bowl of ramen, especially with a bunch of extra veggies and meat are tossed in. i stumbled on these in the freezer section, tossed them in the cart, and have been doing so since. they take only 3 minutes in the microwave and even after, the chicken in it is still so tender. add these to your shopping list next time you’re running to costco; you won’t regret it!
do you have a costco membership? what’s your favorite thing to get there?
2020 was definitely a year we will never forget. it started off like any other year, but then the infamous COVID-19 changed the world. and as difficult as it was as all the changes took place among the world, i’m taking this year as something that i will look back to, and be grateful for everything that i have. it turned out to be the year that i learned to appreciate what i had.
i took a few minutes to look through my year in photographs, and wanted to share some of my favorite moments with you.
ringing in the new year with friends – way before we knew what 2020 was going to be like and celebrating the start of a new year with some of our favorites.
celebrating mahkena’s birthday – our little lady turned 8 this year and wanted to celebrate with a puppy party and a donut cake. she’s growing up way too fast!
working from home – we had no idea this was coming, nor how long it would last. but we’re making the best of it and enjoying all the extra time at home with our family.
a few weekend trips to the city – before the country went on lockdown john and i got to enjoy a few weekends away together. looking forward to when we can do things like this again when things get back to normal. in the meantime, these memories are some of my favorite.
lots of family time – this is truly the best thing to come out of 2020 and having to quarantine. it taught us all to slow down a little bit and enjoy the extra time we got together as a family. here a just a few of my favorite photos capturing these moments.
celebrating aubrey’s birthday – how in the world did this girl turn 6 this year?! we celebrated with close friends and family and tried to make her feel as special as possible during the pandemic.
trip to iowa – john and i took a weekend trip to iowa with some family and friends. we rented the cutest little cabin on the lake. we look forward to taking the whole family there sometime soon.
teaching the kids how to ride their bikes – all the girls learned how to ride their bikes without training wheels this summer. now we got our own little girl bike gang cruising through the neighborhood.
summer fun – because we were all stuck in the house for so long, we enjoyed as much time as we could outside this summer. plenty of fun in the backyard with the pools, trips to the campground, adventures to the zoo, and strolls through sunflower fields.
trip to see grandma – we took a quick weekend trip down to missouri to visit my grandma and some of our family. it was nice to take a little roadtip and spend some much needed time with them.
celebrating kaylei’s birthday – our girl turned 12 and due to the pandemic we couldn’t do much, but we sure made the best out of it. we rented a few rooms at a local hotel and took full advantage of their pool.
house renovations – we spent some time this year painting the entire house, putting together new furniture, hanging new canvases, and creating a craft room. this house has become more our home this year and it’s exactly what we pictured.
family photos – we updated our yearly family photos before the weather got too cold. it sure is difficult getting four kids to all look at the camera and smile at the same time, but they all did great and made for the perfect pictures for our christmas card this year.
buying a new car – our biggest purchase of the year! it’s so much more convenient having all six of us being able to ride together and take one vehicle.
mason’s birthday – goodness, i want this precious boy to stop growing up so fast. he turned 3 this year and is always making us smile.
halloween – one of our favorite times of the year and kept the tradition going with a themed family costume; this year we were all superheroes!
getting bun bun – we added a new furry addition to the family this winter. it was quite the surprise to the kids, and they’re already so attached.
christmas – christmas was spent at home, celebrated with our immediate family. lots of gift-opening, happy kids, and yummy food.
and in 2021, i’m ready for more, more of this happy life.
we’re all guilty of it; seeing those items that are all over social media and tik-tok and we can’t help but want it. there are so many neat gadgets out there that influencers are reviewing that it’s hard not to.
and now with working from home being the new normal for a lot of people now, i wanted to do a quick post with some fun must-have office finds found on amazon.
these are all so functional and with the holidays approaching, would make great gifts too!
