Need fall bucket list ideas?

ya’ll, the best time of the year is here…FALL! i’m all in for cooler weather, crunchy leaves, and spooky season! what about you? do you have anything fun planned this fall?

need some inspo? don’t worry, i got you covered! check out my list below for some fun ideas to truly enjoy this time of year!

  • a sport’s fan? watch lots and lots of football. one of my favorite parts about fall is the return of the nfl season. i love cozying up on the couch on a sunday and watching football all day long. whose your team?
  • maybe an odd time to do it, but go camping! pack up the family and enjoy the outdoors and what this weather has to bring. my favorite campground in the northern illinois area? this place, by far!

  • carve some pumpkins! as much as you hate the mess of pumpkin seeds scattered on the counters and floors, the kids usually enjoy it so just do it!

what’s on your fall bucket list?

things we’ve been loving lately

hey all! it’s been a while since i’ve done a post like this; i figured it was time to share some of our recent favorites that we’ve been loving lately. you guys seem to really enjoy these and i’m sharing quite the variety of items today!

first, lets talk technology! with quarantine affecting us all; i’ve found new hobbies to enjoy and recently have been dabbling in digital illustration. i downloaded the procreate app on my ipad and using my apple pencil i’ve been slowly adding more and more finished pieces to my completed collection.

i’m really enjoy creating new art for our home, including some of our family and one of my craft studio. if you’re looking to have one done, shoot me a message; i’m sure we can work something out!

speaking of family, we recently got new family photos done and knew after doing some re-decorating within our home, we wanted to create a gallery wall using some of our new photos.

let’s be honest, large canvases are typically not the cheapest, but i stumbled across an online canvas company and have nothing but amazing things to say about it.

if you’re interested in ordering canvas prints, i’d HIGHLY recommend checking out CanvasChamp.com they are super inexpensive, offer a wide variety of sizes, and sell other custom items. they are always running great promotions and offer many different codes to save. my favorite is when they run their buy 2, get one free deal. interested in saving more? let me know and I can share a link with you.

our gallery wall turned out better than i had expected and it’s my favorite thing to walk into our home and see these. seriously check out CanvasChamp.com, you won’t be disappointed!

alright lastly, let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart…our pups! recently Buddy Bandana reached out to me about helping share their mission and i was immediately on board.

for those who don’t know Buddy Bandana spreads awareness and raises money for rescue organizations across the country. every purchase they donate a portion to no kill shelters to support and save animals in need.

i don’t receive anything from the sale, but am all about supporting a great cause! use code “OkayToBeShay” at checkout to save 40% on all orders and free shipping!

maci girl and I thank you @officialbuddybandana for the matching bandana/scrunchie set!

Mason is 3: A RAWRRRsome birthday party!

it’s hard to believe, but our little mason turned three this month! and even though we’re in the midst of a pandemic, we still wanted to celebrate. so we threw together a small party; inviting just our immediate family to celebrate his special day.

mason is currently obsessed with dinosaurs and has been begging for a dino cake for months so we had to make it happen. aside from ordering a cake, we just ordered a few decorations from amazon. you can see what we bought here; a simple dino set that came with everything that we needed.

mason’s aunt is so talented and made us the cutest matching family dino shirts to wear during the party. they turned out so great and mason looked adorable rocking his “three-REX” tee!

we’re so thankful for everyone making him feel so special on his big day. he truly is so loved.

here’s a few more photos from his birthday celebration…ENJOY!

if we were having coffee, our coffee convo would look a little like this.

hey friends, welcome back!

if you’re new here, i use these “coffee convos” to share some of my ramblings, thoughts, and life updates. so cozy up, grab a glass of whatever you’re drinking, and hope you enjoy what i’m sharing.

if we were having coffee, i’d talk about how we’ve been doing a little decorating around the house lately. we held out as long as we could to take down our christmas decor; but it was definitely time. now with that all put away, the house seems so much emptier so we’ve been adding a few touches.

we recently took a trip to costco and stumbled upon probably my new favorite house plant. we bought a pot for it, transferred it in to it, and found a great spot for it in our home that gets great light. #costcodoesitagain

if we were having coffee, id fill you in that all four of our kids hit the sick train for a bit. between two cases of the flu, ear infections, and lots of runny noses, they’re all finally feeling better and on the mend. fingers crossed it stays that way for a long while and no more school has to be missed.

if we were having coffee, i’d talk about how in our family, we’ve been celebrating a few birthdays. mahkena turned 8 at the end of february and i still can’t believe that she’s already that old. we’re looking forward to celebrating with close friends and family soon.

also, our maci girl celebrated a birthday over the weekend and we made sure to spoil her with lots of puppy snuggles.

if we were having coffee, i’d ask if you had any new show recommendations. lately, we’ve binge-watched the new show love is blind on netflix and are almost all caught up with shameless. we’re leaning towards watching game of thrones next, but are always on the lookout for some new ones to add to our list.

this month has some super exciting things planned for us, and we’re excited! what fun things do you have planned for march?

a photo journal – missouri

this blog post is way overdue, and i mean 6 months overdue…oops. i was going back and forth debating to share it, but it’s memories and something i’ll enjoy looking back at later.

back in september we celebrated my grandma’s 75th birthday by throwing her a party. we have a very LARGE family, and we were so thankful that a lot of the family and her friends were able to come.

because it was just going to be a weekend trip, i rode down to missouri with just my parents and sister.  it was nice to have that time with them since i hadn’t taken a family vacation with just them since i became a mother over 10 years ago.

my dad is a go-getter in the morning, so were up and at ’em at 5 in the morning and ready for our 8 hour trek.

as a family we’ve drove to missouri MANY times growing up. a large part of our family is from there, so we spent lots of time there. and as many times as we’ve passed through st. louis and commented that we should go up in the arch, we never did. we made the same comments this time, except this time dad convinced us to actually go and made a u-turn.

anyone that knows me knows that i HATE heights and small spaces; so i was freaking out a bit. the four of us had to squeeze into this tight car that traveled up the arch, where it would eventually let us get out of at the top and look out the tiny windows over the city of st. louis.

after two quick glances out the windows and a few quick photos, my trembling knees were ready to head back down. i enjoyed the experience, glad i did it, but i have zero intention of doing it again.

back on the road, and a long nap later we were about there. i was so ready to get out and see grandma.

IMG_2747

grandma was waiting for us inside the hotel and her smile says it all.

we spent our first night there just visiting with family and setting up for the party the following day. i love that we can go months, and even years, without some of us seeing each other and just pick up right where we left off. i love my big, crazy family.

saturday morning we woke up, got ready, and finished up all last minute preparations for the party. everything turned out so well and grandma especially loved that we decorated in her favorite color.

a big part of my responsibility for the party was creating a book for grandma, filled with notes from everyone that i collected over the previous few months. some people wrote sweet “i love you’s” and others shared some of their favorite memories with her. giving grandma her gift and seeing her face light up when i told her what it was, was well worth all the work put into creating it.

before everyone left, we got a few photos of grandma with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were able to make it. that lady is loved by so many!
